'HELP ME, HELP ME.' [A short journey into your head.]
55
I was daydreaming, sitting in my car, one of those preoccupation's when waiting for someone, when you have nothing to do, and there in front of you is a distraction that consumes your time. It was just like that.
It had been raining and the heavy downpour had sent cascades of raindrops crashing into the windscreen creating an ever changing mottled effect, one I could only describe as like peering into a dream. It was rippled with rainbow effects.
Oh you laugh go on, then listen before you become trapped, as I was.
I was parked in the station car park, waiting for a friend arriving on 3.25 from London.
I watched almost as if invited, and feeling unwilling to turn away. It was only raindrops I was watching, at least that was what I thought.
I found myself looking intently at these raindrops, so intently that I would swear I could see faces in each raindrop. Faces that were as if calling to me, at least I could feel my mouth trying to express what it was they were saying, for each raindrop contained a face appearing to be expressing the same mannerisms as in all the other raindrops, I was as if being spoken to, in silence.
Do not ask me how long this continued, I have no idea, for what happened next changed everything.
My attempt to understand what these faces were saying could only conclude it was 'Help me.' In fact I was even repeating it as I was looking, over and over I was saying 'Help me, help me.' I could feel panic rising in my body, and a pace in my heart that was so strong I could hear my heart beating in my head.
I recall the panic and shouting so loud, at the top of my voice, 'Help me.' It was in that moment I became trapped in every single raindrop hitting the windscreen, I was within each one shouting 'Help me, help me.' I was trapped, I could see no one sitting in the car, I was in the raindrops.
'Help me, help me.' I shouted, but I could hear no voice, and I shouted for what seemed an eternity.
I never heard the train arrive with my friend, I never saw him run through the rain towards the parked car. But I did hear him, I heard him loud and clear banging on the car drivers window shouting, 'Hey John, wake up its pouring out here, open the ruddy car.'
